We’re joined by Brian Albert of 350Madison to talk about real scientific understanding of what’s needed to reverse the trend causing the climate crisis, as well as their event happening on Monday, November 4th.

Then, we’ll expose the record that was broken recently by American CEOs, and contrast that with the recent war being waged by corporate America against everyone who isn’t in upper management.

Finally, we’ll take a look at how it can be that millions of people are ignored in Washington, suffering for the benefit of a very select few.  All that and more live on TMI at Noon Central on WSUM 91.7FM in Madison, and live online via the Listen page (http://tmitmitmi.com/listen/).

TMI 9/28/2013: Imperial America, Outsider Journalism and Scientific Breakthroughs

David Sirota challenged us this week to truly see America the way we will be played out in the annals of history: will the United States of America be seen like ancient Rome, where it began as a constitutional republic, only to become the most notorious empire of all time? We’ll discuss that, then we will take a critical look at Journalism with the help of the Guardian’s piece on Seymour Hersh’s views on where the fourth estate is today, and where it needs to be. Finally, as TMI with Aldous Tyler is the Cure for the Common Media, we’ll delve into two scientific breakthrough stories that mainstream media seems to have virtually ignored, both of which hold tremendous promise for our future. All that and more today on TMI – catch it live at Noon Central on WSUM 91.7FM in Madison, or stream it via the options on the Listen page.

TMI 9/21/2013: Colorado Saturated, Food Safety Doublecrossed, Violence Unabated and more!

Colorado has had the flood of the century, only the problem is, this is likely to happen again, and not in the too-distant future. More, the waters’ devastation isn’t the only concern. But a recent study shows global warming has slowed, so everything’s going to be okay right? Yeah not so much. Then:

What can be wrong with increasing food safety regulations?  After all, a believer in good government like myself should be trumpeting the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), right?  I would, if it didn’t appear to contain provisions that benefit corporate factory farms and CFOs over family farms and ranches. Finally:

Faced with another bout of mass violence, a new deadly rampage at a naval yard has us wondering where does it all stem from, and how can we help stop it?  While I’m a supporter of gun control, you may be surprised at some of the answers I believe are more relevant to the problem. All that and more today at noon on TMI. Listen on WSUM 91.7 FM in Madison, or go to the Listen page to stream it live online anywhere!

TMI 9/14/2013: Putin’s Points, the Reality of $15 per Hour and More!

Now that we’ve had a bigger about-face than could have been expected on our planned missile strikes against Syria, we can all just relax, right? If only that were so: Russian President Vladimir Putin wrote an op-ed in the New York Times, managing to speak many uncomfortable truths, several hypocritical passages and a couple outright lies, all packaged in a way guaranteed to ensure that most Americans would reject it all outright. The sad fact is, he had a few important points that you really should consider. Too bad he’s such a poor vehicle for the truth.

On top of that, We have fast-food workers striking for $15/hour. What would a world look like that had that happen in it? We’ll discuss it, and also check in on other aspects of income inequality. Oh, and that Google search you did last night on bondage rope and explosives?  That might not have actually been Google. All that and more today, Saturday the 14th of September on TMI – catch it on WSUM 91.7FM in Madison or use the Listen page to stream or podcast it!

The Meaning of Our Communication

The meaning of a communication is not what you intend it to be – it is what those who receive that communication take away from it.  This is a difficult truth to wrangle with, and it is vital to understand before committing an international action.

For example, when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1942, they were not attacking our military on our soil; they put no boots on the ground; it was a surgical strike, with no intention to harm the general citizenry of Hawaii. However, it was *the* action that galvanized us here in America to join ALL theaters of World War II, not merely against the Japanese.  Did they intend to rile us to rise against their Axis allies?  I can only imagine Hirohito got some heated “Gee, THANKS moron!” messages from Hitler and Mussolini for that.

My point is simple: we may see a serious need to perform a surgical strike, without putting boots on the ground, that in no way shape or form attacks Russia, Iran or anyone BUT the Assad regime, and thus we can try to fool ourselves into saying we are not getting into a war… but what will everyone else take away from that?

TMI 7/13/2013: WLHA Special Weekend w/ Kevin Peckham

WSUM 91.7FM in Madison, which TMI proudly broadcasts from every week, was not the first radio station here at UW-Madison. That honor falls to WLHA, which back in the day broadcast on 640AM from the Lakeshore Hall basement, and this weekend WSUM is being taken over by WLHA Alumni. In the case of TMI, we will be joined by Kevin Peckham, and we’ll discuss the FCC’s recent release of 1000 low-power FM frequencies for public use, and how that will enrich our airwaves similarly to how community based radio has from the day of WLHA to nowadays with WORT, WSUM and others! All that and more on TMI Saturday, July 13, 2013 at Noon Central on 91.7 WSUM FM in Madison, and live via any of the streaming apps and sources on the TMI Listen page (http://tmitmitmi.com/listen/).
