Cenk Uygur Hiatus Hillary Clinton Mary Burke Pink Floyd Presidential Politics

TMI 11/08/2014 – On Hiatus, with Links

No episode today, but a couple of links to look at and ponder:

Were you aware that one of Mary Burke’s top advisors sent thousands of dollars to GOP candidates while working on the Burke campaign?

Did you know Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks is running an online “progressive presidential primary” to find an alternative to Hillary Clinton?

Finally, there’s been a lot of attention paid to Pink Floyd releasing a final new album this year, but have you heard this song from them which, to my mind, encapsulates our world and what it needs?

Enjoy, and TMI will be back next week!

Access Journalism Brett Hulsey Episode Jeremy Ryan Mary Burke Media Paul Ryan WSUM

TMI 08/09/2014 – Of Primary Concern: Which Ryan is Right for You, The Hulsey Question of Dem Principles, and Has Access Journalism Stifled Political Press?

On this episode of TMI, we focus on principles and core values, and those who challenge us to live up to them. Up first, we have Jeremy Ryan of http://therightryan.com/ – he challenges Republican Rep. Paul Ryan in Tuesday’s (August 12) primary, asking why it seems so hard for Paul Ryan and much of the GOP to live up to their states principles, such as, “The proper function of government is to do for the people those things that have to be done but cannot be done, or cannot be done as well, by individuals, and that the most effective government is government closest to the people.” We’ll dig into that and more.

We’ll talk to Wisconsin State Senator Brett Hulsey, who is running in Tuesday’s Primary against Mary Burke, noting that she lacks in many ways when compared to his standards of restoring the money the Walker administration took from Wisconsin’s school system, workforce and public healthcare programs, and his stance on keeping jobs in Wisconsin (as well as bringing more in). Just as Jeremy Ryan is challenging the former VP candidate Paul Ryan to be a real Republican, State Senator Brett Hulsey is challenging Mary Burke to be a real Democrat.

Finally, we’ll look at the state of the media when it comes to political press coverage. A nasty little practice, dubbed “Access Journalism” by those who oppose it, has arisen to become the new normal: if you’re a member of the media that isn’t liked, you get little to no access to those who hold public office or make the decisions that affect us all. We’ll explore how this works, and what can be done about it.

All that and more gets covered on TMI for Saturday, August 9th, 2014, airing live at Noon Central on WSUM FM 91.7 or http://wsum.org/ anywhere in the world. Tune in and get your Cure for the Common Media!
