Having returned to the air after a five year hiatus left me feeling like I needed to catch up on things – and there’s no one better to help with that than Peter B. Collins! He joins us for this extra-helping of TMI where we review what’s happened in the media, the climate, the field of presidential politics and leading us into the current worldwide protests for Black Lives Matter. It’s an HOUR of great insights and news you might have missed, so don’t miss THIS! Listen in, and be sure to follow Peter B. Collins on his own podcast as well!

On TMI this week: Aldous will take on media laziness and malpractice while taking your comments and questions live at 608-265-9786 (265-WSUM) starting at noon Central on WSUM 91.7 FM in Madison and simulcast live via streaming at http://wsum.org/ – tune in and call in for your cure for the common media!
On this episode of TMI, we focus on principles and core values, and those who challenge us to live up to them. Up first, we have Jeremy Ryan of http://therightryan.com/ – he challenges Republican Rep. Paul Ryan in Tuesday’s (August 12) primary, asking why it seems so hard for Paul Ryan and much of the GOP to live up to their states principles, such as, “The proper function of government is to do for the people those things that have to be done but cannot be done, or cannot be done as well, by individuals, and that the most effective government is government closest to the people.” We’ll dig into that and more.
We’ll talk to Wisconsin State Senator Brett Hulsey, who is running in Tuesday’s Primary against Mary Burke, noting that she lacks in many ways when compared to his standards of restoring the money the Walker administration took from Wisconsin’s school system, workforce and public healthcare programs, and his stance on keeping jobs in Wisconsin (as well as bringing more in). Just as Jeremy Ryan is challenging the former VP candidate Paul Ryan to be a real Republican, State Senator Brett Hulsey is challenging Mary Burke to be a real Democrat.
Finally, we’ll look at the state of the media when it comes to political press coverage. A nasty little practice, dubbed “Access Journalism” by those who oppose it, has arisen to become the new normal: if you’re a member of the media that isn’t liked, you get little to no access to those who hold public office or make the decisions that affect us all. We’ll explore how this works, and what can be done about it.
All that and more gets covered on TMI for Saturday, August 9th, 2014, airing live at Noon Central on WSUM FM 91.7 or http://wsum.org/ anywhere in the world. Tune in and get your Cure for the Common Media!
TMI today is on fire! Joining us live in studio are two friends of the program we’re proud to welcome back: John Fugelsang, frequent commentator on life’s absurdities and former host of Current TV’s Viewpoint, and Steve Horn, investigative journalist and research fellow at DeSmogBlog.
John always has great insights into how humanity seems to stumble into itself and even better suggestions on how to keep that from happening, and today we will talk about media and politics: how too often it seems the media seeks to divide and scare us of each other, rather than inform us about what’s happening! John always gives great conversation, so don’t miss it!
Steve will delve into the waters of Lake Michigan near Chicago to show us the latest on what exactly BP spilled there, and how much of it was released, and what kind of danger this may put the Windy City’s drinking supply in. Then, he’ll bring to light the energy export congressional hearings that happened this week, at which discussion of climate change was conspicuously absent.
All that and more today on TMI with Aldous Tyler at noon Central on WSUM 91.7FM in Madison, or streaming live audio via http://wsum.org!
