TMI 11/13/2020 – Steve Horn on Biden’s Climate, Shrooms Curing Depression, and Trump’s Dangerous Path Forward

On this episode of TMI, friend of the program Steve Horn joins us to discuss what President-elect Joe Biden’s history with climate related issues, and what to watch for as we focus on forcing his hand to help the planet. Then, we discuss how studies are showing that single doses of Psilocybin (“shrooms”) have an immediate and lasting effect on changing the brains of people who suffer from depression. Finally, we find Trump painted into a corner electorally, which means his only options left to retain power are pretty ugly. TMI 1/31/2015 – Bomb Trains Roll Again, Tar Sands Pipeline Permits Issue Forth and more (with Steve Horn)

TransCanada’s Keystone XL Pipeline is still in the news: Congress debates it and the President threatens to veto it, all the while Enbridge has not only begun to expand its existing pipelines to carry the Tar Sands across our border at volumes equal to or greater than Keystone XL, but also has received new permitting from the Obama Administration for more! Steve Horn of DeSmogBlog.com joins us to discuss that and how the infamous oil-carrying rail cars that have detonated repeatedly have been allowed to continue rolling. TMI 12/06/2014 – How OPEC’s Floored the Gas Pedal and Denton’s Challenged Fracking with Steve Horn, and much more!

If you live in the USA, you might have noticed that gas prices have fallen steadily of late. Some worry that this will lead to increased usage and worsen the already tenuous situation we face with the climate crisis, but there may be an environmental upside to OPEC refusing to slow oil production, thus glutting the market and lowering the price we face at the pump. Steve Horn of DeSmogBlog joins us to discuss that as well as what’s happening in Denton, Texas, where, he reports, environmental groups have joined the city in defending itself against the big oil interests that are suing to overturn the ban on hydraulic fracturing (“fracking”) that the citizens voted to put into place.

There’s that and much more on TMI with Aldous Tyler for Saturday, December 6th, 2014, airing live on WSUM 91.7 FM in Madison, and simulcast via live stream at http://wsum.org/ everywhere! Tune in for your Cure for the Common Media.

TMI 10/11/2014 – No KXL Required with Steve Horn, Colorado’s Push for “Personhood” with Karen Middleton, and SCOTUS Interruptus!

Usually, I prefer a relaxed attitude about things: no jacket required, open mic nights, etc. In the case of big oil, however, I make an exception: they want to bring Alberta tar sands bitumen to market, no Keystone XL required… and it looks like they’ve managed it. Steve Horn joins us to discuss how this came to be while we were focused on KXL.

Then, have you heard of “Personhood”? It’s the concept that a fertilized egg has the same rights as a full human being. It comes up every few years, but this time it’s been reframed in an insidious new way that tricked former opponents into backing it. Karen Middleton, Executive Director of NARAL Pro-Choice Colorado, joins us to help sort it out and pin down where in America is facing this new threat to women’s rights.

Finally, the Supreme Court is issuing rulings left and right, some good, some bad, and many confusing. We’ll go over some of what’s going on with the nation’s highest court. Catch all that and more on TMI for Saturday, October 11, 2014, airing live at noon Central on WSUM FM 91.7 and streaming live everywhere on http://wsum.org/ – get your dose of the Cure for the Common Media!

TMI 9/06/2014 – Steve Horn’s Keystone Clone, Yoon’s Polar Vortex Revelation, and much more!

Steve Horn of DeSmogBlog.com has been working all summer on a five-party series that shows how the focus on Keystone XL, while good in many ways, has distracted us from the efforts of Enbridge and the Federal Government to create what amounts to a clone of the dreaded KXL. He joins us by phone to go over what’s been going on while we were enjoying the halcyon days.

Then, Jin-Ho Yoon of the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Richland, Washington is more concerned about winter. A study he coauthored had found that the Polar Vortex phenomenon that plagued is here in the U.S. last year may become the new normal, thanks to how arctic sea ice has been steadily disappearing.

We’ll have all that and more on TMI for Saturday, September 6th, 2014, live at noon Central on WSUM FM 91.7 in Madison and live streaming at http://wsum.org/ – tune in for your Cure for the Common Media!

TMI 6/07/2014 – The Wave of Equality with Devin Gatton, the Mistaken Surveillance with Steve Horn and More!

U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb in Madison on Friday overturned Wisconsin’s same-sex marriage ban, striking down an amendment to the state constitution approved overwhelmingly by voters in 2006 and prompting an emergency action by the state to halt the scores of weddings that began in the state’s two largest cities. Devin Gatton of Wisconsin’s Log Cabin Republicans joins us to discuss and show that there are things we can agree just need to happen, no matter our affiliation.

Then, Steve Horn returns to discuss how the government has been keeping anti-Keystone XL activists under close watch as suspected “terrorists”, while a military commander warns us that the threat real terrorists pose to our oil pipelines is going mostly ignored. Steve has also just concluded a three part investigation into Retired General David Petraeus’ dealings with North Dakota, forcing a public official to admit that obviously corrupt practices were just “business as usual”.

Chicago Climate Episode John Fugelsang KeystoneXL Media Sociology Steve Horn WSUM

TMI 3/29/2014: Fugelsang on the Media, Horn on Energy, Aldous on Fire and More!

TMI today is on fire! Joining us live in studio are two friends of the program we’re proud to welcome back: John Fugelsang, frequent commentator on life’s absurdities and former host of Current TV’s Viewpoint, and Steve Horn, investigative journalist and research fellow at DeSmogBlog.

John always has great insights into how humanity seems to stumble into itself and even better suggestions on how to keep that from happening, and today we will talk about media and politics: how too often it seems the media seeks to divide and scare us of each other, rather than inform us about what’s happening! John always gives great conversation, so don’t miss it!

Steve will delve into the waters of Lake Michigan near Chicago to show us the latest on what exactly BP spilled there, and how much of it was released, and what kind of danger this may put the Windy City’s drinking supply in. Then, he’ll bring to light the energy export congressional hearings that happened this week, at which discussion of climate change was conspicuously absent.

All that and more today on TMI with Aldous Tyler at noon Central on WSUM 91.7FM in Madison, or streaming live audio via http://wsum.org!
